Signal is developed by Open Whisper Systems.

Signal is known for its end-to-end encryption, which means that messages are encrypted before they are sent and can only be decrypted by the intended recipient. This makes Signal a popular choice for people who want to keep their conversations private.

According toitchyfootrascal on Reddit, who discovered the feature while digging through Signal’s Android app code (APK), the app appears to be testing an Instagram-like Stories feature. The code shows that the feature will let you share photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours. There’s also mention of a “limit” on how many people can view your Story, although it’s not clear what that limit is.

Signal’s addition this week is yet another example of a kind of social-media app acclimatizing taking place online, leading towards the the demise of single-use, feature-specific social applications in favor of one-stop-shop networking platforms. Encouraged by Snapchat’s popularity in the fleeting, “transient” social posting game, Instagram has become indentical with public and “close friend” 24-hour stories. Twitter and TikTok have since added their own versions of this in Twitter Circle and TikTok Stories. All the while, Instagram is slowly remaking itself in the image of rising apps like TikTok and BeReal, capitalizing on the speedily evolving market of young users. With its expanding user base, Signal is moving along in its footsteps.

Here are some tips for using Signal’s new feature:

To create a Signal story, simply swipe left from the main screen of the app.

You can add text, drawings, and filters to your story by tapping the edit button in the top right corner.

Your story will automatically disappear after 24 hours, but you can choose to delete it at any time.

You can view other people’s stories by tapping on their profile picture in the Stories tab.

If you’re interested in learning more about Signal’s Stories feature, you can check out the company’s website or blog for updates.
